Phones - Do you know the issues ?
There appears to be wide spread confusion at present as to what the
law now requires. Indeed, from articles in the national press, it appears
that the interpretation of the law by some police authorities runs counter
to that of the Department for Transport (DfT), the originator of the
regulations!
Quite simply,
the law states that the use of a hand-held
phone or similar device is prohibited when driving a motor vehicle
on the road. At present,
hands-free equipment may be used while driving as long as it can be
operated without holding the phone. Such use is allowed, providing
a driver has
proper control of a vehicle. If it is judged that a driver whilst using
a hands-free device, fails to have proper control of the vehicle, then
the driver will be vulnerable to charges of careless or dangerous driving.
