Discrimination

For those employers who fail to comply with the legislation, or quite simply ignore it, the penalties are harsh:

an Employment Tribunal has the power to award compensation to the affected employee – compensation is unlimited
damage to a company’s reputation. The press will ensure that such cases are publicised
good staff may decide to leave if they perceive that staff are not treated in an equal and consistent manner.

It is essential that a clear policy on Discrimination is prepared and circulated to all staff. The policy should make it clear that any form of Discrimination will not be tolerated by staff or management and outline the various ways in which the Policy will be implemented.
